Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the government has expressed confidence in India’s energy security. According to government sources, India currently has 25 days of crude oil reserves. Additionally, 25 days of petrol and diesel are also available. Overall, the country has approximately eight weeks of crude oil and petroleum product reserves.
Sources stated that only 40 percent of India’s crude oil comes through the Strait of Hormuz. The remaining 60 percent is imported from other sources. This prevents any single route from completely dominating the supply. India continues to import crude oil from Russia as per its previous agreements. The government says that the country is also in a comfortable position with respect to LPG and LNG. The government is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the Middle East and will take appropriate action as needed.
