On Saturday, the situation in the Middle East escalated dramatically as the US and Israel attacks Iranian targets jointly, demonstrating an alleged attack on places around the residence and office of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It was initially announced by Israel and later American president Donald Trump confirmed American involvement and also gave a stern warning that they would drop more bombs everywhere should there be the need to.

The attacks are the highlight of an intensification after weeks of sour relationships between Washington and Tehran. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz called the step a pre-emptive or preventative step to neutralise threats that were imminent and declared a state of emergency in Israel soon after the हमला.

Iran responded by launching counterstrikes, and nationwide alerts on air defence were initiated by Israel. The Israel military alerted its citizens as it prepared against the possibility of incoming missiles as interception systems were deployed in strategic areas. It was also reported that explosions and increased security had been experienced in several cities in the region.

With the escalating tensions, Israel, Iran and Iraq closed their airspace resulting in the cancellation and diversion of flights by some international airlines. There were also reports of mobile phone service outages and the interference of internet connectivity in certain parts of Tehran. Precautionary measures in Israel resulted in the closure or remote operation of schools and working places.

The escalation is despite the continuous works at diplomatic level and deliberations on a possible US-Iran nuclear agreement. In the meantime the Indian embassy in Israel has also released an advisory that asks Indian nationals to be cautious and obey local safety measures and ensure that they do not move unnecessarily in these volatile times.
