On February 2526, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Israel in the first such trip to the country since his historic visit in 2017, when he was the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel. The visit that follows has a high diplomatic and strategic value especially with the recent events in West Asia and changing stance of India on major regional matters.

In the weeks preceding the visit, India had participated in a move to condemn more than 100 countries and international organisations that it termed unlawful settlement expansion in the West Bank by Israel. India reasserted its long-standing position of support of a two-state solution and the rights of the Palestinian people and moved into the world arena on the matter. The government however did not feature in the list of nations denouncing the expansion in a statement submitted by the Palestine UN envoy, but this changed later; India-Arab League ministerial joint statement in which the ministry of external affairs stated its position.

India and Israel are also maintaining strong bilateral relations at the same time which had been intensified since 2014. Prime minister Modi, as well as Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, have frequently stressed the fact that they get along personally. In a recent post on social media, Netanyahu called Modi his personal friend, and it reminds of the symbolic walk they had on the Mediterranean coast during the 2017 visit.

When Modi is ready to reunite with Netanyahu, the question will be on how India will equate between its strategic alliance with Israel, including its defence, technology and trade ties, and its diplomatic relations with Palestine and the rest of the Arab world.
