On Sunday, a big fire erupted in the office of the District Assistant Director of the Fisheries Department in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, and this caused panic in the region. The fire got out quickly and swept a part of the office building burning valuable government documents, furniture, computers, etc. The officials have feared that the fire might have cost losses in rupees in the tune of several lakhs. The accident comes within the jurisdiction of the Chakradhar Nagar police station.

When the smoke and flames were observed, the local residents called the fire brigade immediately. A number of fire tenders rushed the scene where firefighters started putting the fire out. The work was not easy, as the fire was very strong, however, it was later brought under control, and the fire was not allowed to extend to other buildings nearby.

When the information about the incident reached Chakradhar Nagar police, headed by the station in-charge, they went to the scene too and determined what was going on. The police surrounded and isolated the premises and held residents in the surrounding close as a precaution. First inspections indicate that the fire could have been induced by a short circuit but it will only be confirmed after a thorough technical analysis.

The Fisheries Department officials were on the spot to determine the level of damages and to start other formalities. ASP Anil Kumar Soni confirmed that both the teams of police and fire department acted immediately after getting the alert. According to him the fire is being put out and that the department involved is in the process of assessing the cost of the damage. Research is being done to establish the exact cause of the fire and the overall damage to be incurred.
