The office of Dalai Lama has made a stern clarification to disapprove reports that the Tibetan spiritual leader is being associated with an American sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. The office in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh issued a statement that said, We can categorically state that His Holiness never met Jeffrey Epstein or authorised a meeting or interaction between anybody on behalf of His Holiness and Mr. Epstein.
This is made clear following recent media reports and social media posts that alleged that Dalai Lama name was mentioned several times in documents that are commonly known as the Epstein files. The statement said that certain outlets such as media under the control of the Chinese government, which challenges the validity of the Dalai Lama because he claimed the freedom of Tibet, that his name was quoted 169 times as per the files.
Nevertheless, activists and researchers have indicated that the mentioning in documents is not an evidence of wrongdoing. The Epstein related records, which were published by the US Department of Justice after a court order, contain thousands of emails, messages, schedules, and communications involving third-party communications. Most of the references, it is said, are accidental, unworthy and, in fact, created by Epstein or his friends.
Jeffrey Epstein, a businessman who committed suicide in jail in 2019, was found guilty of several grave sex-abuse felonies and was reported to have ties to several high-profile political leaders, businesspeople, and diplomats. Tibet activists have reanimated the fact that the statements are not evidence.
The Tibet Rights Collective is a policy research and advocacy group based in Delhi and pointed out that none of the materials released indicate unlawful actions, financial dealings, and personal malpractices with the Dalai Lama. The sources, it claimed, are mostly connected with social events, university projects, or third-party debates in order to have prestige or access. The group stressed that it was necessary to draw the line between the name being mentioned in the correspondence of other people and the active involvement or approval of the criminal activity.
