Pakistan has claimed that Afghanistan and India are behind a fatal suicide bombing that was carried out in Islamabad that claimed the lives of at least 31 people and left almost 170 more injured on Friday. New Delhi and Kabul have however vehemently denied the accusations terming them unfounded although the Islamic state (IS) was reported to have taken credit of the attack.

It is the deadliest attack in the Pakistani capital since the bombing of the Marriott Hotel in 2008 because the blast took place in a Shiite mosque. The event has increased the level of security fears in the nation and it has caused a series of diplomatic responses. The Pakistani officials initially attributed the attack to foreign forces in reference to the existing tensions with the militia groups including the Baloch Liberation Army and mere links across borders.

India quickly rejected the statement of Pakistan repeating that it needed to concentrate on internal security issues rather than creating scapegoats. Accusing the attack, India claimed that it was unfortunate that Pakistan is still accusing them instead of dealing with what it termed as home-grown terrorism. New Delhi denied any claims out rightly terming them as baseless and meaningless.

Pakistan has also accused Afghanistan of letting the militant groups such as the Pakistani Taliban and other Islamist groups to seek safe havens in Afghanistan. The government of Kabul (led by the Taliban) denied these allegations. Taliban Defence Ministry spokesman Enayatullah Khwarazmi stated that the allegations on the same made against Pakistan by the Taliban had been raised many times with no substantial evidence presented to support those claims.

In the meantime, after the attack, the US Embassy in Islamabad also issued a security alert to American citizens to be more vigilant concerning the fear of a possible additional violence. The state of affairs is still not cleared up as the bombings are investigated.
