Prime minister Narayana Modi on Saturday added that India is keen on enhancing its defence and security relations with Malaysia as well as enlarging bilateral relations in other sectors including economy, innovation and emerging technologies as he paid his first official visit to Kuala Lumpur.

The visit is made at the request of the Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. On his visit, Modi will have specific bilateral negotiations, meetings with business and industrial figures, and his interaction with the Indian population. The visit is also accompanied by the 10 th India-Malaysia CEOs Forum, which underscores the increasing economic involvement of the two nations.

Before leaving, Modi declared that he was looking forward to a meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to drive the process of extensive strategic collaboration between the two countries further. As he observed, both parties would work towards intensifying defence and security relationships and enhancing economic collaborations, intensifying the innovation partnership, and increasing cooperation to newer and futuristic domains.

Modi further emphasized the significance of Indian diaspora in Malaysia which is estimated to have close to three million individuals and is one of the biggest Indian communities in a foreign country. He had explained how the community has contributed in the development of Malaysia as a key pillar to the friendship that has existed between the two countries over time and a connection linking the two societies.

As stated by the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit will enable both leaders to discuss the progress in main areas like the field of trade and investment, defence and maritime security, digital and financial technologies, energy, healthcare, and tourism. India and Malaysia are also likely to strike a number of agreements within the visit with some of them being an agreement between the National Payments Corporation of India and PayNet of Malaysia.

Furthermore, negotiations are being held in order to conclude memorandums of understanding regarding collaboration in the semiconductors, disaster management, maritime training and certification, anti-corruption efforts and healthcare.
