With an incredible track record of success in its wake, Aditya Dhar has come up with a spy thriller, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, that is expected to be one of the greatest releases of the year. The initial part, Dhurandhar, was released in December last year and became the highest-grossing Indian movie to date at the domestic box office, breaking a new record in theatrical performance.
One of the notable points about the recently issued teaser is a significant turnabout in the way the film is to be treated in post-theater mode. In contrast to the former section, its release in India on Netflix occurred in eight weeks after the theatrical debut. Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge will be streaming on JioHotstar and will subsequently be broadcast on Star Gold after its release in theatres on March 19. According to industry sources, the move is to guarantee that the streaming process will be smooth following complaints brought forward by the viewers about the technical problems associated with the digital release of the first movie.
The switch also seems to be a commercially strategic one. JioHotstar is supposed to have acquired the digital rights at a competitive price, considering the colossal hype on the sequel. Besides, both JioHotstar and Star Gold are under the same corporate parent as Jio Studios, which is the production house in support of the franchise, which means it can control the timing of releases.
As Dhurandhar earned close to ₹1,390 crore all across the world, the makers are sure that the sequel would fetch the same or more returns. The movie will be released in five different Indian languages, i.e., Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, and will have a holiday time of release, i.e., Eid, Gudi Padwa, and Ugadi.
To further alter the situation, the rights to music in the sequel have also been purchased by T-Series, who replaced Saregama. It is reported that T-Series had paid approximately ₹27 crore for music, which enhanced the advertising coverage of the film in the world market.
