Tuesday Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition, attacked prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly, claiming the India-Us trade deal which was announced overnight had caused a compromise on national interests by the government. According to Gandhi, the agreement was the betrayal of Indian citizens and led to the betrayal of a hard labor of Indian citizens by the Prime Minister who made the claim speaking to the reporters outside Parliament.
The Narendra Modi has sold your sweat in this business deal as he is compromised. Gandhi has sold the country, he said, and made his attack on the Centre foreign and economic policies more marked.
The statements were made during a high drama in the Lok Sabha where the business was stopped many times compelling the adjournment. The row of demonstrations broke out when Gandhi tried to open up on the way the government managed the tensions between India and China on the border by mentioning an article published in a magazine about an unpublished book by the former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane. The minister of parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju protested saying that the Speaker had already disallowed mentioning of unpublished material awaiting government clearance.
Rahul Gandhi requested that the contents be at least paraphrased but the dialogue soon turned into cries of protests both by the ruling NDA and the Opposition benches. Congress MPs claimed that Gandhi was only talking on the issue of national security and the NDA members responded with objections.
Matters came to the boil when Congress MP K.C. Venugipal referred to the colloquial term yaar, during the heated debate and this caused the Chair, Krishna Prasad Tenneti to blast him over the use of such a term in Parliament. The usage was defended by the Congress MP Manish Tewari, contributing to the commotion even more.
The House being in disorder, the Chair adjourned it. On the one hand, outside Parliament, Gandhi repeated his statements regarding the government, and the trade deal was presented by him as a betrayal of the national interests and responsibility.
