Prime minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday encouraged leaders of national democratic alliance (NDA) against complacency despite the recent elections wins, by urging them to keep working hard on behalf of the people. In his address at the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, Modi has emphasized that the successes of the coalition in electoral contests in local bodies, and other polls, have been achieved through people-centric policies and hard work and not the political momentum.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reminded the reporters that NDA MPs had been reminded by Modi that whereas celebrating the prior victories is normal, people had to work hard so that they could keep the people on their side and enable the administration to be driven by effective governance. The NDA leaders also gave congratulations to the Prime Minister over the successful completion of trade agreements with 39 countries, an indication of increasing economic involvement of India at the world level.
One of the best success stories was the recent trade agreement between the United States and India according to which Washington has agreed to cut the mutual tariffs on Indian products by half, to 18 per cent. Modi emphasized these agreements will generate real gains to the small businesses and increase the global trade presence of India. Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora pointed out that Modi emphasized on the government acting in the best interest of India be it in trade agreements or budget regulations.
Senior NDA leaders such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Apna Dal leader Anupriya Patel, NCP leader Praful Patel, Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde and Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha were in attendance. This message by Modi was clear since electoral victory is a milestone, not a destination and continued governance and service to the people has to be the priority of the alliance.
