Stone-Pelting During Funeral on Narmada Bank in Khargone, Police and Watchman Injured
Khargone (Madhya Pradesh): It can be seen in Sulgaon village, located within Mandleshwar police station, within Khargone district, that the brooders were in a tight spot after a dispute between two sections got derailed into stone-pelting during a funeral ceremony on the banks of the river Narmada. Some individuals, such as police and village watchmen, were hurt in the incident. The video of the disorder has also become viral on social media, which has attracted more attention to the case.
Police sources claimed that a family was doing the last rites of one of their dead relatives close to the Narmada river when some of the local residents objected that the burial should be held in the place. What started as an oral fight escalated into a confrontation between the two parties. In a span of a few minutes, stones were thrown on both sides, causing panic among the people who had been present at the funeral.
Upon hearing the news of the commotion, the police officers had to go to the scene to contain the situation. Nevertheless, even the police team was not spared in the stone-pelting. Some village watchmen and policemen were injured as they tried to restore sanity. The injured were administered medical care at hand.
The police were able to put the situation under control after a lot of hard work, and the unfolding of the funeral rites under the heavy security was guarantee. To curb the situation, three police stations in the surrounding area were mobilized in Sulgaon village. Close observation in the area was done to uphold law and order.
The SDOP of the police, Shweta Shukla, Mandalshwar, also went to the scene to check out the situation and oversee security measures. According to senior officials, peace has since been restored, albeit temporarily, but the situation is a sensitive issue.
The security agencies have started recognizing the persons behind the stone-pelting through video records and information provided by locals. Authorities have promised that they will deal with rascals who have been creating chaos on such a solemn event. A closer look into the exact reason behind the dispute is being carried out.
