Tirupati Laddu Prasadam controversy: The claim of adulteration in the laddus offered as prasad at the Tirupati temple had become a major issue not only in Andhra Pradesh but also in national politics. Now, the CBI-led SIT team investigating the case has filed its final charge sheet. The charge sheet stated that the ghee used to make the laddu prasad between 2019 and 2024 did not contain beef fat or lard.

The charge sheet was filed in the Nellore Anti-Corruption Bureau court on January 23. Sixteen months earlier, in 2024, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan sparked a controversy by alleging that the sacred Tirupati Laddus were adulterated with “animal fat.” Following the Supreme Court’s intervention in October 2024, a CBI Special Investigation Team was formed to probe the matter.

The CBI chargesheet states that the ghee used to make the prasadam was adulterated with chemicals such as vegetable oil, beta-carotene, and esters. The investigation also revealed that the adulterated ghee was supplied by Bhole Baba Dairy in Bhagwanpur, Uttarakhand.

In September 2024, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan alleged that prasadam was adulterated with animal fat between 2019 and 2024. At the time, the YSR Congress party was in power in the state, with Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as Chief Minister. The matter became a center of political controversy.
