A plane of IndiGo moving between Kuwait and Delhi was diverted safely to Ahmedabad in the morning on Friday after a reported bomb threat, officials said. As a precaution measure, the aircraft (180 passengers) landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at about 6:40 AM.

The airport authorities affirmed that the diversion was initiated after a passenger found a handwritten note that indicated that there was a bomb on board the plane. On getting the information, the pilot directly got air traffic control, where the decision was taken to reroute the plane to Ahmedabad so that the passengers could be safe.

An airport official said that all the 180 passengers were safely evacuated during the landing. An all-round search of the aircraft was then done by security personnel and airport staff to confirm the threat. The inspection did not find any explosive device.

According to the official report of IndiGo, the flight 6E 1232 flying between Kuwait and Delhi was diverted when a security threat was identified. The concerned authorities were contacted immediately, and all the required procedures were complied with. The plane has been cleared following all the required check-ups, and the flight will soon take off, the spokesperson added.

The incident points out the rapid response among airline personnel, airport security and other security agencies towards the management of possible in-flight threats. Passengers were thankful for the fast response and secure evacuation. The government made it clear that precautions in the event of or threat of a bomb explosion, such as diversion, long-term and meticulous inspections of aircraft, are regular operations that would protect everyone on board and their health.
