The Allahabad High Court has delivered its verdict in the Maha Kumbh stampede case. It has ordered compensation to be paid to the family of the woman who died in the stampede within 30 days. The court also rejected the state government’s demand to settle the case after the final report of the inquiry commission is released.

The High Court has ordered the Fair Authority and the Commission to pay compensation within 30 days to the husband of the deceased woman who died after being injured in the stampede. The division bench of Justice Ajit Kumar and Justice Swarupama Chaturvedi, hearing the case, warned that the court would take the matter seriously if the order was not followed.

It should be noted that on the morning of January 29, 2025, a stampede occurred in the Sangam area, reportedly resulting in the deaths of over 30 people. Hearing the case on June 6 last year, the vacation bench reprimanded the Uttar Pradesh government for the delay in disbursing ex-gratia compensation to the families of those killed in the stampede. The court also remarked that once the government has announced compensation, it is its sole responsibility to ensure timely and dignified payment.

During the hearing in January 2026, Additional Advocate General Anoop Trivedi informed that the inquiry commission had already recorded the statement of the petitioner on December 17, 2025 and the issue of death during the stampede was being investigated in coordination with the Mela Authority.
