A little less than 6 months following the visit to New Delhi by his Canadian counterpart, India National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, is likely to pay a visit to Ottawa early next month to facilitate high-level strategic cooperation as India and Ottawa strive to restore bilateral relations.
The visit is attributable to the current Security and Law Enforcement Dialogue between the two states, and is meant to improve the choice of concert in finding approaches on security, civil security, and law-and-order matters. The trip made by Doval is also important since it will be made approximately a month before the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney makes his first bilateral visit to India.
In September, Canada National Security and Intelligence Advisor (NSIA) Nathalie G Drouin had visited New Delhi, where she had a detailed discussion with Doval. Those discussions contributed to the creation of a proper line of communication to discuss the common security issues.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, the Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh Patnaik, claimed that the impending visit is a follow up of those talks. He mentioned that the aim of the dialogue is to guarantee the citizens of both countries safety and security and to improve the highest level of the strategic cooperation. It is aimed at, he remarked, to make sure that terrorist organisations, criminal rings, or other aggressive factors will not abuse the territory of one country or the other.
The activities of pro-Khalistan extremist groups based on the Canadian soil are one of the major areas of concern in India, which New Delhi alleges are aimed at facilitating separatism in Punjab. Canada, in its turn, has expressed concerns connected with violence and safety of the population on its territory.
Upon rejoining Ottawa, Drouin told her encounter in India as being fruitful with both parties having a common understanding and aim of respecting India as a nation and safer streets in Canada.
