Delhi Traffic Police has issued a special traffic advisory regarding the full dress rehearsal of the Beating Retreat ceremony to be held at Vijay Chowk on January 27, 2026 in Delhi. Keeping in mind the security arrangements and smooth conduct of the event, temporary traffic restrictions have been imposed on several major roads of the capital. According to the traffic police, vehicular movement will be affected in Vijay Chowk and its surrounding areas from 4 pm to 6 pm. Vijay Chowk will remain completely closed during this period, while traffic will also be regulated on Kartavya Path, Raisina Road, Krishna Menon Marg and surrounding roads.
People should use alternative routes at Vijay Chowk, Kartavya Path (from Vijay Chowk to Rafi Marg), Raisina Road, Krishna Menon Marg, Sunehri Masjid and surrounding roundabouts – Traffic Police
The traffic police have appealed to the public to avoid restricted routes and use alternative routes for travel. Commuters have been advised to travel via routes such as Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road to Kamal Ataturk Marg, Rani Jhansi Road, and Minto Road to avoid unnecessary congestion and inconvenience.
The Delhi Traffic Police has also clarified that people should plan their travels in advance before leaving home and strictly follow traffic police instructions along the way. To ensure safety and smooth traffic flow, police personnel will be deployed at intersections and key locations to assist travelers and regulate traffic.
The full dress rehearsal of the Beating Retreat ceremony will be held on January 27, while the main ceremony will be held at Vijay Chowk on January 29. The event marks the formal conclusion of the Republic Day celebrations every year, with the armed forces’ bands saluting the nation to the traditional tunes of ‘Beating Retreat’.
Earlier on Monday, the 77th Republic Day celebrations were held in a grand manner, showcasing India’s cultural diversity, military might and technological capabilities. The event began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying tribute to the martyrs at the National War Memorial, followed by a grand parade and cultural performances that conveyed the message of the nation’s unity and strength.
