A stand off that seems to have lasted weeks seems to be coming to an end, at least as far as the T20 world cup is concerned, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) hinting on the official announcement of Scotland participation in the upcoming world cup of cricket next month to replace Bangladesh. This ruling is expected to be upheld in the near future with Scotland already on standby by the international regulator.

On Friday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) turned to the Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) of the ICC in an appeal that it wanted the ruling of the council overturned in a last-minute attempt. The appeal was however not catching because the case was considered to be beyond the jurisdiction of the DRC. The Bangladesh have been adamant in not going to India in the 2026 ICC Men T20 World Cup because of security reasons yet there have been several assurances and evaluations done by the ICC.

Having a little more than two weeks to the start of the tournament, the ICC has not expressed a desire to change the time frame arguing that it had been agreed upon by independent security assessments. This has made the officers say that Scotland is now completely ready to intervene and they are anticipated to be elected as a substitute of Bangladesh by Saturday.

The unpredictable involvement of Bangladesh has turned into one of the most unstable off-field scandals of the recent world cup. What started as the BCCI pleading for the release of Mustafizur Rahman of one of the IPL franchises allegedly went into an international and administrative feud. The climate was worsened by the fact that IPL broadcasts in Bangladesh have been banned and World Cup matches have to be moved out of India and a sharp rebuff by the ICC.

The episode poses bigger questions than the merely immediate tournament of whether Full Member nation can boycott matches at a host venue at World Cup, and what the move would do to future ICC events.
