The second consecutive day saw heavy snowfall being experienced in the Bhalesa region of the Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir greatly hampering normal life in the region. The snowfall in the last 24 hours has caused massive roadblocks and disruption of vital services, thus the government implemented safety warnings to its people.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gandoh, Bhalesa, in the name of the Doda district administration requested the people to stay at home and not to move anywhere without any necessity, until the weather improves. The warning was given because the temperature in the area dropped to the point when it was lower than the freezing point, which raised the chances of accidents and health issues.

The officials have recorded that the plains have received almost one foot of snow with upper areas full of hilly formations recording a lot of snowfall between two to three feet. The heavy snow cover has led to large scale inconvenience in electricity and water supply systems leaving most of the villages without basic facilities. A number of highways and link roads are still closed as a result of massive snowfall, landslides, and fallen trees and this is making remote places even more isolated.

Based on the current situation, the government has limited road access to emergency services, such as emergency responders (medical and disaster) and emergency responders. Mr Clean-Up roads are underway, and the constant snowfall has hampered the pace of restoration.

The snow has been a great climatic event after a long dry period of almost three months in the area. Snowfall on the plains and upper sphere of Bhalesa and its neighboring regions commenced late on Friday night and relieved the farmers, increasing water stocks, but threw short-term difficulties on the daily lives and facilities. The situation is being closely observed by the authorities.
