The main accused, Dr. Praveen Soni, who was posted at a government health center in Chhindwara, is accused of prescribing the most toxic cough syrup. His wife, Jyoti Soni, and Saurabh Soni, along with Rajesh Soni, are also accused in the case. The bail applications for all of them were debated at length before a single bench headed by Justice Pramod Kumar Agarwal. Both sides presented their arguments, but the court has reserved its order, meaning a verdict could be announced at any time.

It is noteworthy that after this tragic incident, the state government banned the syrup throughout the state. An investigation revealed that the children died due to a toxic substance in the syrup. Dr. Soni is also accused of overprescribing this syrup in exchange for commissions.
