Chandigarh. The weather in Punjab is set to change today. Amid severe cold, a rain warning has been issued. The Chandigarh Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, warning of lightning, rain, hail, and strong winds for the next two days. During this period, wind speeds could reach 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at some places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Moga, Rupnagar, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala and SAS Nagar (Mohali).
Dense fog enveloped many parts of the state over the past 24 hours. Visibility dropped to zero in Bathinda, while Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded 50 meters each. Minimum temperatures in many locations ranged from 5 to 9 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Department, the peak period of cold has now passed and there is little possibility of severe cold. The western disturbance has moved towards the mountains, resulting in light to moderate rain at many places on January 22. On January 23, there is a possibility of rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds in most parts of the state. On January 24 and 26, rain will be limited to some areas, while light rain is also possible on January 27.
