The question of the quality of healthcare in Madhya Pradesh Datia district has caused a new controversy. The conflict started when the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. V.K. Verma made a surprise visit to the Unav and Parashari Primary Health Centres (PHCs). It is alleged that the Community Health Officer (CHO) Dr. Neha Shrivastava was absent on the visit to the Parashari PHC. Analysis of the attendance register revealed that she had apparently failed to report to work over the last four days.

CMHO Dr. Verma was furious with the so-called negligence by which he gave Dr. Shrivastava a show-cause notice and declared that negligence in providing healthcare services would not be condoned. He threatened to deal with irresponsible individuals sternly.

But, the case has now become dramatic. Dr. Neha Shrivastava has made severe charges against CMHO Dr. Verma that she is being harassed at will. She claimed that the CMHO constantly makes calls to other doctors to know what she was doing, though she was doing her work as per the official orders. She said that during the inspection, she had been tasked with duty in Gram Beekar and has documentary evidence, in the form of duty orders and location records, which can confirm her argument.

Dr. Shrivastava also claimed that even after submission of evidence, she was absent on three days and salary suspension had been instituted. She has also alleged that the officials demanded money to get her salary cleared. To make matters even more controversial, she asserted that the CMHO had derogated her, questioned her character, and spread her name in social media.

It is important to note that this is not the first occasion when CMHO Dr. Verma made it to the limelight. An audio recording that accused him of involving himself in some financial transactions with a company was viral recently, but as of yet, there is no official confirmation.
