On Monday, the CBI started the second round of questioning the TVK chief and actor Vijay at its head quarters in New Delhi in relation to the Karur stampede case, said the officials. Vijay came to the Lodhi Road office of the agency in a procession of expensive SUV in the early morning. They added a team of officers headed by a deputy superintendent-rank officer of the agency, conducting the interrogation.

This is after the second time on which the actor was questioned by the federal agency. He was already previously interrogated over six hours on January 12. The CBI had appointed him to report back to them on January 13 but Vijay had requested an alternative date citing a Pongal festival. In response to his request, the agency agreed and they rearranged the session to be on Monday.

In the most recent interrogation, the authorities indicated that Vijay was interrogated on specifics regarding his judgment concerning the rally, such as why he responded late in appearing and why he proceeded to give his speech when the violent situation was escalating. Another issue that the probe team investigated him was whether he was aware of the disorder that was underway, the number of people who attended and the general handling of the event.

The case is currently handled by the CBI that replaced a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the order of the Supreme Court. It has been reviewing evidence as regards the tragic stampede that has taken place on September 27 in Karur, Tamil Nadu and caused the death of 41 people and over 60 people were injured.

The authorities said that the name of the people to be included in the chargesheet will be decided only after a thorough examination of what was recorded by the actor, the top political figures in his party, police, and the district administration officials who were tasked with giving permission to the rally and control the crowd. The investigation is in progress since the agency is still trying to obtain major evidence to create the order of happenings that caused the fatal stampede.
