The provocative remark issued by a congress MLA Phool Singh Baraiya has caused a lot of agitations within the state. His effigy was also burned in Narmadapuram in this statewide outrage to express his strong disapproval of his statements. In her address at the event, former State President of the Women Wing of the Congress and Rajya Sabha MP Maya Narolia personally attacked the Congress and said that the attitude of the party towards women will never be the same.
Narolia stated that Congress leaders have made offensive and insensitive comments against women in various locations. She even indicated that these are such derogatory words that one would think twice before saying them. Focusing on the Indian values, she explained that there is a belief that in places where women have been treated with respect, there is divinity, and these are the cultural values India is identified with. Nevertheless, she claimed that the congressional leadership abuses these values in a continuous manner through its degrading remarks on women.
She also remembered the previous situations when women were addressed by derogatory language and even reduced to mere objects or accused of unseemly conduct. Narolia added that this situation has crossed all boundaries, and even the beauty of women is doubted. She questioned whether beauty was to be taken as a curse now and urged Phool Singh Baraiya, who was an MLA of the senior position and had daughters of his own, to be responsible.
In an attempt to mock the Congress leadership, she challenged the slogan of the Priyanka Gandhi, Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon, and sought to know why leaders who insult women are never taken seriously. She required that such kinds of leaders be kicked out of the party rather than being shielded.
Narolia compared this with the strategy of the BJP, which proposes actions such as the Nari Shakti Vandan Act that grants 33 per cent reservation to women, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Ladli Lakshmi, and Ladli Behna programs. She had cautioned that derogatory remarks made against women were unacceptable and highly criticised the employment of abusive language, and that further disrespect might bring the Congress to its very end.
