Bijapur. The first encounter of 2026 in Chhattisgarh took place in the National Park area of Bijapur district. On Saturday, soldiers surrounded several big Naxalites in the forests of Mattimarka. Firing continued from both sides since morning. This operation was carried out by a joint team of DRG, Cobra, and STF. Notorious Naxalite DVCM Dilip Bedja and ACM Kosa Mandvi were killed in the Bijapur encounter. During the search of the spot, two AK-47s were recovered along with the bodies.
According to reports, teams from the Special Task Force (STF), DRG (District Reserve Guard), and the Cobra Battalion launched an operation in the National Park area following information about the presence of Naxalites. During this time, they encountered a large group of Naxalites. Firing continued from both sides throughout the morning, with soldiers killing two Naxalites. Two AK47 rifles and automatic weapons were recovered from the scene. The slain soldiers have been identified as DVCM Dilip Bedja and ACM Kosa Mandvi.
Bijapur SP Dr Jitendra Yadav said that based on information about the presence of DVCM Dilip Bedja of the National Park Area Committee of Maoists and other armed Maoists in the forest-hill areas of the north-western region of Bijapur district, a search operation was started by a joint team of DRG, Cobra, and STF.
Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj Pattilingam informed about the encounter that despite difficult geographical conditions and other challenging situations, the soldiers of DRG, Cobra, and STF are continuously carrying out decisive operations against armed Maoist cadres with utmost courage and commitment.
