New Delhi: Traffic flow at various major outposts of central Delhi will be limited on January 17, 19, 20, and 21 because of rehearsals of the Republic Day procession, the Delhi Police announced on Friday. The limits will also be imposed to enable easy organisation of the rehearsals along Kartavya Path.

As per a traffic advisory released by the police, the rehearsal exercises will be carried out on the roads of Vijay Chowk to India Gate, and the parade route will run till the C-Hexagon. The traffic limit will be implemented between 10:15 am and 12.30 pm every four days to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the implementation process.

A few of the big traffic crossings on Kartavya Path will also be closed during the restricted hours. These are crossroads with Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road, and the C-Hexagon. Moreover, the whole expanse of Kartavya Path between Vijay Chowk and India Gate will be shut down to general vehicular traffic, and this is likely to cause diversions and congestion on other nearby roads.

Delhi Police has recommended setting up their car trips beforehand, not to travel along the restricted zones at the allotted times, but to obey the traffic regulations and directives given by the traffic police positioned on the streets. The movement of emergency vehicles will be enabled, and ordinary citizens are encouraged to be cooperative to create as little inconvenience as possible.

The traffic police have proposed alternative routes to help people who commute. In the north-south and south-north direction, the motorists can pass through Ring Road over Sarai Kale Khan and I.P. Flyover to Rajghat. Instead, one can take the Lajpat Rai Marg, Mathra Road, and Bhairon Road to the Ring Road.

There are other suggested routes like the Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, and Kautilya Marg leading to the Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, and Baba Kharak Singh Marg. The vehicles can also take the Prithvi Raj Road through the Rajesh Pilot Marg and Subramaniam Bharti Marg to reach Mathura Road and the Ring Road.

People who commute have been encouraged to be patient and take additional traveling time during the restriction period.
