Bijapur: Maharanti Operation. Another major successful anti-Naxalite operation of 2026 was conducted by security forces in Chhattisgarh. A face-off is already taking place between the security agents and the Naxalites in the thick jungles of Mattimaraka in the Bijapur district, which falls under the national park zone, a stronghold of the Naxalites.
As per the official reports, the operation was carried out by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel after getting definite intelligence information regarding the existence of armed Naxalites in the area. In the course of the search exercise, the security personnel came into contact with a huge number of Naxalites, and the two engaged in a violent fire exchange, which has been going on ever since the early mornings.
To date, two Naxalites have been eliminated in the fire. Two AK-47 rifles that can also serve as automatic weapons have been recovered by the security forces at the location. The operation is still in progress, and further information is still being received.
The encounter was confirmed by the Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav, who said that the situation is under strict observation. He said that additional information will be provided after the completion of the operation and the full evaluation is done.
It is reported that senior Naxalite leaders such as Paparao and Dilip Vendja might be who were reported to be inside the encounter area. The officials are, however, yet to give any formal confirmation on their involvement.
The National Park area of Bijapur has always been regarded to be a hotbed of Naxalite activities. There have been a number of high-profile Naxal members killed in this area in the past, such as sniper and deputy commander Sodhi Kanna, senior woman cadres DVCM Urmila (who was allegedly the wife of Paparao), among others. Moreover, several of the Naxalites who were operating in the region had volunteered to the police during the past few weeks.
Operations in the country have increased due to the ongoing security efforts by the security forces to tame left-wing extremists in the Bastar division.
