Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to West Bengal and Assam, beginning today. During this visit, he will inaugurate several major railway, road, and infrastructure projects. On the first day of his visit, the Prime Minister will virtually flag off the country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train on the Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya) route from Malda Railway Station in West Bengal. He will also lay the foundation stone for rail and road projects worth over ₹3,250 crore during a ceremony in Malda.
PM Modi will embark on a two-day visit to West Bengal and Assam on Saturday. He will arrive in Malda, West Bengal, at around 12:45 pm and flag off India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train at the Malda Town railway station. The train will run between Howrah and Guwahati.
This train will reduce travel time on the Howrah-Guwahati route by approximately 2.5 hours. Currently, the journey from Howrah to Guwahati by train takes approximately 18 hours. At around 1:45 pm, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for rail and road projects worth over ₹3,250 crore at a public event in Malda.
The Prime Minister will visit Kaliabor on January 18 and lay the foundation stone for the ₹6,957 crore Kaziranga Elevated Corridor. This is a major infrastructure project aimed at reducing traffic congestion and protecting wildlife around the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Prime Minister will also virtually flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains – the Dibrugarh-Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) and the Kamakhya-Rohtak – and address a public meeting.
Modi will return to West Bengal on Sunday afternoon and visit Singur, where he will inaugurate the Extended Port Gate System at Balagarh. He will also inaugurate development projects worth ₹830 crore, including railway connectivity. Three Amrit Bharat Express trains will also be flagged off from Howrah, Sealdah, and Santragachi.
