Trump 25% Tariff On Trade With Iran: Amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, US President Donald Trump has taken a big and strict step. President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on countries doing business with Iran. Trump said that any country doing business with Iran will have to pay a 25% tariff. Trump gave this information by posting on Truth Social on Monday night.

He stated that this decision will take effect immediately. However, the White House has not released an official document regarding these tariffs. The US has already imposed strict economic sanctions on Iran. According to reports, major countries trading with Iran include China, the United Arab Emirates, and India.

China, UAE, and India are Iran’s major partners

According to World Bank data available from 2022, Iran’s largest trade destinations are China, the UAE, and India. Iran primarily exports oil, petrochemicals, and industrial products to these countries. Despite US sanctions, Iran continues to trade through Asian and Gulf countries. Iran’s total trade in 2022 was approximately $140 billion, with exports accounting for $80.9 billion and imports accounting for approximately $58.7 billion. Crude oil, petroleum products, and natural gas constitute the largest portion of Iran’s exports. Petrochemicals, steel, copper, agricultural products, and minerals are also exported. Iran primarily imports machinery, electronic equipment, industrial raw materials, and pharmaceuticals.

Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, that the US will impose a 25 percent tariff on any country trading with Iran, increasing economic pressure on Iran and its trading partners. Any country trading with Iran will have to pay a 25 percent tax on all trade with the US. He stated that this rule will come into effect immediately and will not be amended. According to media reports, countries like China, Brazil, Turkey, and Russia have trade relations with Iran. Therefore, this decision could have a direct impact on these countries. Iran is also a major trading partner of India, so India will also be affected.

More than 600 protests have taken place across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, with the US-based Human Rights Activist News Agency reporting that the death toll is at least 646. Trump has been threatening Iran with US military action if his administration found that the Islamic Republic was using deadly force against the anti-government protestors. The US President said that he believed that it is a ‘red line’ that Iran is “starting to cross”, adding that it has left him and his national security team weighing “very strong options”.
