With the prevailing trade and tariff-related issues, the United States Ambassador-designate to India, Sergio Gor, has reiterated that New Delhi has remained one of the most important international partners of Washington. Having stressed the power of bilateral relations, Gor explained that the personal connection between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the former US President Donald Trump is very tangible and contributes to the establishment of cooperation between the two countries.

Gor when speaking to reporters also added that there is no partner more fundamental than India to the United States and that India is to be looked upon as being very strategic in the foreign policy of America. He furthermore said that even when there are differences in trade and tariffs, there is active dialogue between both the nations to solve the problem and enhance economic collaboration. The ambassador-designate also disclosed that the US is striving to invite India to participate in the Pax Silica initiative in the next month, an indication of more cooperation in the areas of emergent and strategic sectors.

Sergio Gor took over the US Ambassador to India on Monday and the US Ambassador is set to hand his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu later in the week. Gor, according to reports, had come to New Delhi in October of 2025 to take over the position after Eric Garcetti.

In his first public appearance after coming to power, Gor appeared before the media and was optimistic of the future of Indian-US relations. I am so happy to be the United States Ambassador. I am going to this great country with high regard and a mission properly to make the relationship between our two great nations the next stage, he said.

Emphasizing the democratic basis that the two nations have in common, Gor explained that the relationship was a special center of values and hopes. This is where the oldest democracy in the world and the largest democracy in the world meet and this common democracy gives a solid foundation to work together in the field of defence, trade, and technology as well as people to people relationship, he said.

The comments made by Gor are indicative of the consistent attitude of the US towards India and as such the US and India bilateral relationship has become the foundation of regional and international security despite consistently negotiating economic issues.
