On Saturday, thousands of firefighters fought on bushfires in Victoria, Australia, as the intense heatwave conditions sustained the fires that have destroyed homes, cut power and burnt large areas of bushland. The fires that started in the middle of the week in the conditions of record-breaking temperatures in southeastern Australia have already set fire to over 300,000 hectares (741,316 acres) of land. The officials confirmed that 10 large fire incidents are still undergoing in the state, and firefighters are doing their best to control them.

To date, more than 130 homes, among others, have been destroyed and in total some 38,000 homes and businesses are without power because power infrastructure was destroyed. The fires have been declared to be the worst the state has ever experienced since the disastrous Black Summer of 20192020 that burnt an area approximately as big as Turkey and led to the loss of 33 lives.

Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan came to the media in Melbourne and accentuated the magnitude of the fire fighting task. On the ground thousands of firefighters are at work twenty-four hours a day. Fires, where feasible, will be put under control, she said. She also said that the conditions are quite tough since the heatwave and the high winds are present.

Previously, the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese warned that the country was experiencing a day of extreme and dangerous fire weather especially in Victoria, where much of the state is now being declared disaster areas. Albanese delivered televised statements in Canberra by saying that he was thinking of Australians in these regional communities during these very tough times.

The fire that happened in the area near Longwood, approximately 112 kilometers (70 miles) north of Melbourne, has destroyed 130,000 hectares (320,000 acres) of bushland, being one of the largest fires. The fire has caused much economic and environmental impact by demolishing 30 structures, homes, vineyards and agricultural land.
