It was a successful week at the theatrical at the third attempt, with a new theatrical release unable to fend off the impressive box office performance of Ranveer Singh Dhurandhar which remained at the top of the local charts as the highest-grossing Indian film in the country. Not only did the spy thriller directed by Aditya Dhar beat the competition on the part of Ikkis by Sriram Raghavan, but also stormed the collections on New Year Day.
Dhurandhar collected 15.75 crore net at the Indian box office on January 1 and this was an astonishing 40 per cent increase over the previous day. It is with this that the film concluded its fourth week in theaters with an incredible domestic gross of 739 crore. It is important to note that the movie made 100 crore in its fourth week itself, a record in its own right in terms of an Indian release.
The good fourth week performance has put Dhurandhar in the striking range of Hindi domestic milestone of Pushpa 2 of ₹812 crore. Trade observers believe that the movie will enjoy the weekend stampede and it is likely to cross the 800 crore mark over the next few days.
The previous movies like Avatar: Fire and Ash and Tu Meri Main Tera Tera Tu Meri, which were released towards the end of the year just before Christmas, failed to rock Dhurandhar. Its performance could not be compared even with Ikkis, a war movie starring Agastya Nanda, which came to theaters four weeks later than Dhurandhar, which is by all means a long time in which the big movies are supposed to die. Although Ikkis was doing well by earning the respectable ₹7 crore in opening day, Dhurandhar still made more than that, which is to stress on its further hegemony.
Dhurandhar has been one of the most successful films in the history of Bollywood since its release. The movie has already gathered a world-wide box office revenue of over 1,100 crores and is set to break all time blockbusters like Jawan and KGF Chapter 2.
