On January 1, 2026, the first day of the English New Year, a huge number of Devotees was seen at the temples and Shaktipeeths of different cities in Madhya Pradesh. Thousands of individuals celebrated the New Year by praying to the gods and asking them to bless them and many also dipped their hands into the rivers despite the biting cold signifying a lot of faith and devotion.
At dawn in the morning, there were masses of people in the banks of the rivers and the temples. Long corridors of the devotees were observed in big shrines as individuals endured long queues to seek darshan and offer special prayers to mark the New Year with a good start. The bad weather did not stop the faithful who saw the rituals as a holy tradition of starting the year.
Devas witnessed the rise of the world-famous Mata Tekri as one of the key centres of worship. The temples of Badi Mata Tulja Bhavani and Chhoti Mata Chamunda Bhavani were filled with thousands of followers since the dawn hours. Since everyone had faith in the blessings of the goddesses, people would pray and perform the rituals believing that they would get blessed and be blessed in the next year. It is believed by locals that the drops of the blood of Goddess Sati came down on the Tekri in Devas where the two incarnations of the goddess are installed. The Nath tradition priests have been conducting rituals in these temples more than 300 years.
Likewise we have observed in Ujjain a vast congregation of the followers at Ram Ghat on the banks of the Shipra River. Since at least 4 a.m., people were taking a holy bath in the river even though it was freezing cold outside, many believe that they see it as a cleansing of the spirit. The cold weather even failed to deter their spirit, and the scenes of unrestrained faith and devotion took the larger part in the ghats.
