Following a brief period of relief, the air quality in Delhi deteriorated to the very poor grouping on Friday, with the wind speed decreasing, and the minimum temperature also showing a marginal increase. On Friday, the minimum temperature rose to 7.7 o C, compared to 6.5 o C the day before, although this did not provide much relief against the cold.

The weather officials project that the lowest temperature will be between 5 °C and 8 °C until Monday. Subsequently, a second wave of western disruptions is likely to hit the area, and it may result in an increase in nighttime temperatures. The winds will also continue to be low, and it is likely that in the next few days, the frequency of heavy to very dense fog will also occur, particularly in the early mornings.

There was a sharp decline in the air quality of Delhi over the last 24 hours. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was 305 in the 24-hour average at 8 a.m. on Friday, which put the index in the very poor category. This was a massive decrease after an AQI of 234 was reported at 4 pm on Thursday (poor). The AQI on Wednesday and Tuesday was 271 (Poor) and 412 (Severe), respectively, at the beginning of the week.

The authorities reported that high-speed winds reaching a maximum of 20 kilometres per hour earlier this week had aided in spreading pollutants and improving the quality of air in the short term. Nevertheless, the decreased intensity of the wind again caused the accumulation of the pollutants resulting in worsening conditions.

Early Warning System of Delhi (EWS) reported that air quality will possibly improve a bit at the daytime on Friday because of sunny weather, but it will probably aggravate again in the afternoon. The AQI is likely to stay in the category of poor on Saturday, and decline to very poor on Sunday and Monday.
