BCCI announced India’s T20 World Cup Squad today and shockingly, Shubman Gill could not make it to the spot. The BCCI selection committee, led by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, has not only removed Shubman Gill from vice-captaincy, but has also dropped him entirely from the squad. As defending champions, India will be co-hosting the championship with Sri Lanka.
Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel (Vice-captain), Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Washington Sundar, and Ishan Kishan will be in the team.
Sunil Gavaskar spoke on the announcement as he said “Axar Patel, the vice-captain. He is the x-factor with the bat and with the ball. His batting has gone really up there. He can crash the ball everywhere. He’s bowling, varying his pace, bowling across the crease. Bringing the speed variation, will get grip and turn. He’s also an outstanding fielder. He will be the x-factor, cna use him at 5 or 6, and can bowling in the first 6 overs, he’s capable of doing that. Him and Hardik Pandya will be the two.”
