Sukma: Farmers’ anger over paddy procurement at the Gadiras paddy procurement center in the district spilled onto the streets on Friday. Angry over the reduction in the paddy procurement limit, the farmers blocked the main road connecting Sukma to Dantewada. The blockade resulted in long queues of vehicles on both sides, and traffic was completely halted for hours.

Farmers unanimously demanded that the paddy procurement limit be increased, the procurement time be extended, and if necessary, the procurement month be expanded, so that all farmers’ paddy can be purchased. Farmers stated that this government scheme is for their benefit, but they are facing difficulties due to the current system.

Upon receiving information about the road blockage, the Gadiras police and administration arrived at the scene. The Gadiras Tehsildar spoke with the farmers and listened to their concerns. He assured them that their demands and concerns would be conveyed to higher authorities and a solution would be discussed soon. Following the administration’s assurance, the farmers ended the road blockade shortly afterward, allowing traffic to resume.

However, farmers have warned that if a concrete decision is not taken soon, they will be forced to protest again.
