There was a breakout of a huge fire in the early morning hours of the day in an online parcel warehouse within the area of Banganga Mela Ground under the jurisdiction of the Sohagpur police station in the Shahdol area, which created panic among the local inhabitants and dealers. The fire was intense to the point that, in a few minutes, the whole warehouse was covered by flames and the materials stored online packages and other materials associated with transportation turned into ashes.
The accident totally gutted the S.S. Parcel and Transport warehouse, and initial estimates indicated the loss of close to 2 crores, one hundred percent more than the initial estimates put forth the loss at a mere few lakhs. The eyewitnesses reported that the first smoke was spotted coming out of the warehouse in the morning, hence locals alerted the fire brigade and the police upon noting so.
The municipal corporation responded with force and the three fire brigade vehicles came in time. This situation complicated the efforts of firefighters who had to work hard to control the fire because of the availability of highly inflammable substances like clothing, parcel wrapping materials and other flammable commodities containing them in large quantities inside the warehouse. The fire was finally contained after some long struggle, making sure that it did not extend to the adjacent regions.
It is not confirmed what exactly caused the fire. Nonetheless, the first assumption is that it is a short circuit, but authorities have said that an extensive investigation is ongoing. The police of Sohagpur arrived on the spot and took stock of the situation and made the required legal formalities including making a panchnama.
The incident has raised a major concern among the local traders who feel that had the fire not been put under control in time the fire would have spread to other establishments around them leading to even more losses. Luckily there have been no casualties or injuries reported which has been a big relief.
