Only days following a suspended TMC MLA in West Bengal declaring the erection of a structure that looked like the Babri Masjid, a Muslim organisation in Hyderabad has shown its plans to erect its own Babri Masjid memorial. This project was unveiled by the president of Tahreek Muslim Shabban, Mushtaq Malik, at a mass meeting on December 6 -33 years after the old mosque was destroyed.

According to Malik, every year they meet on the anniversary in the organisation and traditionally have a speech of the organisation as a whole, but this time the organisation chose to go an extra mile. It was decided in the meeting that we shall establish a memorial in honour of Babri Masjid in Greater Hyderabad. The organisation is also planning to establish welfare institutions in the same complex besides the memorial. Information about the site, design and the schedule of the project will soon be announced, he added.

The Babri Masjid which was burnt down by a group of Hindutva extremists in 1992 was on a site which many people believed was the birth place of Lord Ram. In 2019, the Supreme Court decided in the favor of building a Ram Mandir on the same site, which led to the opening of the grand temple that was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

When political discussions arose regarding the usage of the name Babur in relation to the mosque, Malik disregarded the degree of criticism as false and founded on false information. He stated that it has no evidence that the mosque was directly funded or commissioned by Babur. Rather he said, such histories are propagated by a vested interest in politics, not truth.

As Malik stressed, the traditions of the Mughal era tended to lead to the coexistence of communities, and the current scandals are trying to reverse that common legacy. This whole discussion was political propaganda, he said.
