On Friday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan did not give any specific opinions regarding the going-on Sabarimala gold theft case, saying that the investigation is being conducted under the direct watch of the Kerala High Court. He emphasized that as Chief Minister, he would not be appropriate to talk a lot on a case that is now under investigation.

Appearing before the media at Kochi, Vijayan told the media that he could not comment extensively on the Sabarimala issue at this point. As you are aware, a Chief Minister is not supposed to comment on an issue when the investigation process is underway. What has to be mentioned is that the probe is supervised by the High Court, and all the aspects are analyzed to the letter. An extremely successful investigation is going on and watch of High Court has been operating well. We can say that we are completely satisfied with the process that is going on and that way.

He also explained how CPI(M) position on the controversy was, where, he said the party would not defend any individual who was found guilty. The CPI(M) has already taken its stand to make things absolutely clear– whoever is in the wrong in this case, the party will not dare defend him, he repeated.

The declaration is made against the backdrop of immense proceedings in the case. On November 26 the Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested A. Padmakumar former president of the Sabarimala Executive Committee and a member of CPM Pathanamthitta district committee concerning the alleged theft of gold at the Sabarimala sanctum. Padmakumar, a former Konni MLA was arrested after the approval of the SIT request by the Kollam Vigilance Court. He had been already placed on remand of 14 days.

Also, Kerala Police filed a case against KM Shajahan, who was the former additional private secretary of the late Chief Minister VS Achuthanand and now a YouTuber.
