The fight against criminal elements in Madhya Pradesh is still gaining momentum. Based on this initiative, the Mahakal police station in Ujjain paraded the notorious and habitual criminal, Dharmendra Yogi in public after his arrest, sending a clear message to the anti-social elements in the area.
Police officials have claimed that Yogi has of late been accused of beating up a complainant brutally injuring him seriously and demanding illicit money. After his arrest, the police took him to the crime scene where he was to do a spot check. In the process, he was taken on a tour around the Mahakal Temple area a symbolic gesture that served to scare away other persons who engaged in crime.
Dharmendra Yogi has a chequered criminal record, according to police records more than two dozen cases against him have already been registered. Most of them are still outstanding in the courts with his continued participation in illegal actions over the years. His criminal history comprises of crimes against assault, extortion, intimidation and other crimes that have continuously broken peace in the area.
Talking about the operation, the Station In-charge Gagan Badal said that no one would escape the police department which caught him in criminal activity. He said that these drastic measures will remain in the larger effort of restoring security and order within the region. The community spectacle, he said, is supposed to put fear among repeat offenders and help the citizens know that the police is vigilant and uncompliant.
The Ujjain police are confident that such a strategy will assist to provide a better environment to the community members, particularly in the sensitive regions surrounding the Mahakal Temple that receives thousands of devotees on a daily basis. The government is convinced that visible policing and tough control measures will be relevant to curb crime and hold some water in the eyes of the citizens.
This incident is a manifestation of the state being serious about the law-and-order tactics and is a clear indication that there are consequences to criminal acts.
