Rohit Sharma, the batting star of India has made a choice to do the extra mile to support the new move by the BCCI that senior players should play in domestic cricket. Although he retired in June last year in the T20Is, the former India captain has accepted to play for Mumbai in the knockout of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).

Mumbai conquered the league stage in Lucknow and won in all their matches and came out topping Elite Group A with 16 points. They have performed well enough to secure the place in the knockout stages which will take place in Indore between the dates of December 12 and 18. The fact that Rohit has decided to play in the team is seen to be a big boost to the Mumbai team campaign, and also a case to other senior cricketers that domestic competitions are vital.

Rohit is on the homestead leading India in the series of ODI against South Africa. The final judge will be decided on December 6, in Visakhapatnam. A report on The times of India reveals that Rohit will be travelling directly to Indore soon after the final ODI to join up with the Mumbai camp to take part in domestic T20 knockouts.

His availability has been confirmed by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), and one of the sources informed the newspaper that he has indicated that he wants to play in the Mumbai knockouts in SMAT. The inclusion of Rohit does not just enhance the probability of Mumbai but also fits into the greater agenda of the BCCI in making sure that the best of the national players remain attached to the local cricket system in India.

In what could be described as a welcome change to the SMAT knockouts, Rohit is expected to show up in the knockouts and this would see fans of Rohit look forward to his comeback to the domestic T20 events, which can be of great benefit in terms of enhancing the magnitude and popularity of the competition.
