Based on credible intelligence information, Special Staff (West District) of the Delhi Police has busted another big cricket betting business this time in the Vikaspuri locality. The officers have taken direct action on Saturday when they put unobtrusive surveillance in the nearby Dussehra Ground in Vikaspuri and then raided a premises suspected to be of ill repute in the second floor of Janta Flats, Budhela Village.
In the raid, two men, Gaurav and Himanshu, who were identified as the active participants in setting and running bets on an Australian Women Cricket League contest, were caught by the police. In an attempt to conduct the illegal activity, the pair was using an online betting app called Plus Project 2025 available on a laptop. The two suspects were arrested on the spot.
Significant electronic equipment that was involved in the betting racket such as two LED screens, six cell phones, one laptop and a digital recorder were also seized by the officers. They are said to have been utilized to broadcast the matches in real time, to process the betting transactions and to relay information to the betters.
After the raid, an FIR was registered in Section 3, 4, 9, and 55 of Delhi Public Gambling Act at Vikaspuri Police Station. The law enforcers are currently investigating whether the arrested people were part of a bigger network and how the money they used in the illegal betting businesses was traced.
This event resembles a similar raid in April 2025, as the IPL season was underway, with the Delhi Police Crime Branch busting a widespread betting syndicate in the cricket arena based in Paharganj. There, a total of six people were arrested, and several gadgets such as a laptop and a tablet and ten cell phones were confiscated in addition to notebooks of the betting-related records.
Police said the Paharganj racket was mainly in the offline format as it took bets over the phone. Betting Assistant and i-book are some of the apps that the accused used to track wagers plus handwritings prepared on a notepad. Bettors made predictions depending on the conditions of the live matches especially during the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans.
