Mumbai: Dhanush and Kriti Sanon’s romantic drama Tere Ishq Mein, which opened to mixed reviews on November 28, is enjoying a steady run at the Indian box office. According to the leading industry tracker, the film collected Rs 17 crore on Saturday, after earning Rs 16 crore on Friday, taking the total to Rs 33 crore.

Famous film critic, Taran Adarsh wrote on X, “Tere Ishq Main records another solid day, with business growing 10.03% on Saturday… The film should finish its opening weekend at approx ₹ 50 cr [+/-], reflecting a fantastic trend”.

The box office collection suggests that Tere Ishq Mein is the biggest opening of Dhanush’s career. Dhanush returns to Indian cinema with a major project after a long time. He was last seen in Anand L. Rai’s film Atrangi Re. The pairing of Rai and Dhanush previously won the hearts of audiences in Raanjhanaa.

Story and Screenplay

The film begins with Violet Shankar of The Delhi University Students Union, whose attitude intimidates everyone. Mukti, another student at the same college, aims to prove in her thesis that even the most vulgar person can change with the right approach. When Shankar disrupts her presentation, the professors take the incident as proof that some people never change.

But Mukti takes up the challenge of reforming Shankar. Uninterested Shankar gradually begins to change for Mukti, and in the process, he falls in love with her. Mukti completes her PhD, but this is the moment when Shankar realizes that Mukti’s feelings are not what he imagined. Seven years later, their lives collide again at a crossroads.

Strong pairing of Dhanush-Kriti

Performances are the film’s biggest strength. Dhanush, as Shankar, balances raw fury and delicate vulnerability with a natural ease. Kriti Sanon’s character is layered, and she portrays it with sincerity and maturity. The duo’s chemistry is gripping, as they both portray the emotional heaviness of their respective characters with authenticity. Prakash Raj adds depth to the story with his presence in the second half. Priyanshu Painuly, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Tota Roy Chowdhury, and the rest of the cast also strengthen the story. However, some actors are not given enough space.
