New Delhi: By-elections are being held today, Sunday, for 12 seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Voting began at 7:30 am on all 12 seats amid tight security. Voting will continue until 5 pm. Nearly 700,000 voters will decide the fate of 53 candidates for these 12 councillor seats. The results will be announced on December 3rd.

The Delhi MCD by-elections will see a close contest between the BJP and the AAP. This election is considered a crucial test for the BJP, especially after losing the MCD seat in 2022. It is also being seen as a referendum on the performance of the BJP-led Rekha Gupta government.

Earlier, both the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) campaigned for the by-elections. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led the BJP’s campaign, while former CM and AAP leader Atishi led her party’s campaign. Senior leaders from both parties toured the city, appealing for support in the closely contested election. Fifty-three candidates are in the fray for the 12 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) seats, nine of which are going to be by-elections.

This is the BJP’s first test after its landslide victory in the assembly elections. However, it is being said that Rekha Gupta and her team have put in a lot of hard work in this election. This is why the party is expecting good results. The main contest in the MCD elections is between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party. These results will reveal whether the BJP has been able to strengthen its hold on the corporation. The BJP previously ruled the MCD for three consecutive terms, but was ousted from power by the AAP in 2022.
