The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a big blow as a former two-term MLA and the senior party leader Rajesh Gupta, resigned on Saturday and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a day before the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bypolls.

Rajesh Gupta, the former national spokesperson of the AAP, also the party in-charge in Karnataka was officially induced into the BJP by the presence of the Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva. An official statement by the Delhi BJP unit says that Sachdeva welcomed Gupta into the party and gave him the BJP stole.

Emotions following his initiation, Gupta said that the AAP had lost its initial values and did not appreciate the workers who had helped form the movement. They (AAP) are not interested in the individuals who quit their jobs during the Anna Andolan, he said, alluding to those people who gave up their careers to help in the anti-corruption movement that spawned the party. He also cited that most of the leaders and volunteers in AAP are currently seeking to quit due to being disrespected. “It’s not easy. They ought to take them to a place where they are respected; a party that does not use and discard their workers.

Gupta alleged to be sidelined despite the seniority and allegiance. I happened to be in the party and their convenor did not talk to me or visit me, he said. Delivering a question to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directly, he said, Arvind ji, why people are abandoning you. I would never give up on you even on the television.

In reaction to Gupta, BJP leader of the Delhi district, Virendra Sachdeva said that AAP leaders now were accusing the BJP government of unleashing problems that they had created in their 12-year rule. According to him, AAP had a point to miss the boat since the BJP had only been in government within a period of eight months.
