It has been a home of Test cricket that has made India a very vulnerable destination to visiting SENA countries in recent years. The two-match Test series against South Africa with the hosts losing 0-2 was the second consecutive home series whitewash in the past one year. Much of the accountability and blame has been placed on the head coach Gautam Gambhir.

India has also lost five out of the last seven home Tests under the leadership of Gambhir, three of them being against New Zealand and the other two against South Africa. As Gambhir talked to the media after India lost by 408 runs in Guwahati, he spoke in his defense citing that it is up to BCCI to retain him and that he was the one who helped India win the Asian Cup and Champions Trophy, and the draw against England in the Test series.

Nevertheless, ex-India batsman Manoj Tiwary, who has been credible in the domestic cricket, provided a scathing review of the existing coaching arrangement. In an interview to a news agency, Tiwary was categorical that it was high time that BCCI thought of a new coach of the Test team.

To tell truth, the writing was in the wall. It was not going on well and certainly the process that they were taking was wrong. Chopping and changing were too much, as was quite noticeable in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the home series against New Zealand as well as against South Africa now, Tiwary said.

He pointed out the necessity of a red-ball coach who would coach separately Indians to protect Indian Test cricket. The BCCI should take this decision high time. That’s all the end of it, as I said.

As Gambhir was fiercely defending his tally, Tiwary observed that the triumphs in the Champions Trophy and Asia cup were not his personal achievements even though the white-ball team was developed and fostered by Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma.
