Kerala police have booked a self-proclaimed nun, Teena Jose, on an alleged bomb threat to the Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, in a comment in a social media platform. The incident, law enforcers claimed, was on Facebook, where Jose allegedly announced the bombing of the chief minister on the comment box of a post made by another user.

Police officials said the case was registered by a complaint at the Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police Station on Wednesday, by an attorney in New Delhi. The authorities are already attempting to trace the original post to Facebook and Jose would soon be questioned by the authorities.

The supposed threat was based on an earlier post by an individual called Selton L. D’Souza that pointed out the involvement of the chief minister in a local body election campaign. Police claimed that the remark as made by Jose is criminal intimidation of serious nature and a possible danger to the safety of the people in case it is confirmed.

Jose has been charged under 192 ( wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Their officials emphasized that social media is under close watch, and every piece of content that poses a threat to the social authorities or includes content that leads to violence will be addressed accordingly and within the confines of the law.

Although the investigation is just starting, the Kerala police are already liaising with cybercrime experts in obtaining the post and analyzing any digital imprint. The government has also cautioned the citizen not to post unverified threats, or incendiary, remarks on the internet, which can lead to severe legal repercussions.

However, this case raises alarm over the increasing issues of online threats to persons in public offices and the role of expedited statutory intervention in safeguarding elected officials and preserving the law and order in the cyber domain.
