Nirmala Gavit, a former Shiv Sena MLA is fighting with her life after being taken back by a four-wheeler as she continued her daily evening stroll with her grand-son in the area outside her house in Nashik, Maharashtra. The red light district incident which was recorded on CCTVs occurred on Monday evening when the former Igatpuri MLA was walking by the roadside. In the video, a fast approaching vehicle in the background runs over her without braking or any warning.

The impact threw Gavit several feet forwards, and she was critically injured. She was taken to a private hospital and she is still critical in the ICU. Physicians have registered severe injuries and she is still under close supervision. Her grandson who happened to be walking beside her at the moment made a miraculous survival.

Although the vehicle used was found in the accident, police still have not found the driver over 24 hours since the accident. This delay has greatly aggravated the family and posed very worrying questions concerning the rate of investigation. In an interview with ABP Majha, Gavit daughter, Nayana Gavit was in anguish and frustrating commenting on the effectiveness of Nashik Police. “What is Nashik Police doing? The city is characterized as being strict in enforcing, but the driver has not been found and the authorities are left to find out whether the collision was an accident or calculated.

The sudden disappearance of the driver has brought up concerns and speculations in the society. No arrest has been made yet and the police are being pressured to be quick and open in their actions. There is still an attempt to save her by the medical team of Gavit who is in a critical condition and the family, political colleagues and locals are hoping that she will come out alive.
