Prime minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that the pain and hurt of centuries were curing as India officially celebrated the ceremonial completion of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. In his address, after hoisting a saffron flag to the top of the newly finished temple building, Modi claimed that the occasion represented a great cultural awakening and an avenue on which to map a wider national agenda on how to transform India into a developed country by 2047.
Modi said that the completion of the Ram temple was a 500-year-old decision and it touched the hearts of the people of the country. The world and the whole nation are engulfed in Ram nowadays. Hundreds of year old hurts are being mended, centuries old hurts getting mended, he said, and the holy flag on the top of the temple was there as a reminder that the truth ultimately triumphs over the false.
The prime minister complimented Ram worshippers, and all the people who had contributed in the temple construction process and said that Ayodhya was a place where ideals were put into action. Considering the life of Lord Ram, he observed that Ram went out of the house a prince and came back a changed person as Maryada Purushottam, influenced by the teachings of the sages, the devotion of his companions such as Shabari and the support of others in large numbers. Modi emphasized that constructing a developed India would also be achieved through the same means, i.e. through unity, common efforts, and moral strength as a result of these values.
Modi, in his speech, told India that it needs to think much further than what lies ahead of us and operate with a long-term perspective that would help the generations that will come into life. The individuals who merely consider the present are being unjust to the future generations. It was an existing country, and will exist long after us, he said.
He ended with a message that the journey towards a developed India in 2047 would require the need to awaken the Ram in us, that is to have a sense of direction, discipline, and values.
