The Military Media Wing on Tuesday confirmed that 22 terrorists belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed by the security forces in an intelligence-based operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The raid, conducted on Monday, was initiated upon following intelligence reports of the presence of the TTP militants in Bannu area that has common borders with the troubled North Waziristan area.

Troops, according to a statement made by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), rushed to deal with the militants. In the process of carrying out the operation, the troops were successful in hitting the khawarij site, and following a fierce fire exchange 22 khawarij were killed, it said. The state normally refers to TTP terrorists as Fitna al Khawarij.

After the confrontation, security agencies embarked on a massive sanitisation exercise to clear the ground and make sure that there are no militants to be a threat to the ground. The ISPR stressed that the Pakistani counter-terrorism operation, which has been led by the military and the law enforcement agencies, would go on full throttle until the country is absolutely free of terrorism.

Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif gave high praises to the security forces terming the fight against militant groups as a huge victory. He reiterated that the government was determined to contribute towards the operations that would help restore peace and stability in Pakistan, especially where the TTP elements are still active.

The recent operation is after the increased tension and security problems due to the recent suicide attack in the city of Peshawar that once again highlighted the danger of the TTP. Officials state that the rapid operation in Bannu shows that Pakistan is determined to retaliate against any effort by the militants networks to reorganize or reassert themselves. With the sanitisation process still underway, officials are on the move to keep the pressure on extremist elements in the region high, declaring to continue pressurising the elements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and further.
