The family wrangle concerning the successorship of the chief trustee to the Omkareshwar Jyotilinga Temple has ended after a long time. Overall, the Khandwa court on Monday made a breakthrough ruling to give Rao Pushpendra Singh a formal ruling that he was the chief trustee of the Omkareshwar Temple Trust. This is the judgment after several months of court hearings and expectations. After the news, a jubilation was experienced in Omkareshwar, as people and devotees rejoiced the decision.
The previous chief trustee, Rao Devendra Singh, had left the position vacant after his death and had been an effective administrator of the trust, the temple, over the last 35 years. Following his death, several relatives came to the court demanding the right of being chief trustee. But according to what the constitution of the Omkareshwar Temple Trust stipulates, the person sitting on the royal seat is supposed to be the chief trustee. The chief trustee as well is allowed to nominate one of the trustees of his own choice.
The trust committee, which consists of seven members, comprises of the chief trustee of the royal family, the Collector at Khandwa, the SDM of Punasa, the CEO of the Khandwa District Panchayat, the CEO of the Punasa Janpad Panchayat, the Chairman of the Omkareshwar Nagar Parishad (who has a term of five years as a trustee) and a trustee appointed by the chief trustee. This organization guarantees administrative checks and balances between the royal and the state.
Trustees and the local population received Rao Pushpendra Singh with great warm welcome on his arrival in the town. A big procession was also planned and he had to pay homage at the memorial shrine of his fore fathers and offered prayers to lord Ganesha and lord Shiva. In an interview with the media, he said he was determined to improve the image of the temple and to administer it even better. He declared that he would bring about transparency by transferring all records of income and expenditure to online platform.
